John Seely Brown : A New Culture of learning
After watching these video, I walk away with one key idea...In order to engage, we need creativity! Students walk into our classrooms with many talents, and it is out job to allow those talents to flourish. We need to be a part of the educational change that put creativity and literacy as equals. 21st century teaching & learning, equity of opportunity for students, the brain, problem-based learning, etc. all need to include creativity. If we allow students to learn in a way that matters to them, it will matter to the world. The sense of purpose could help change classrooms into 21st century classrooms that produce for the future. As an instructional leader, Mobley's 6 insights can help my students to think creatively by not focusing on always getting the answer right. The most important part of the classroom is learning that mistakes are a necessary and essential part of learning.

The first video https://www.Externalizing.org/technology-integration-introduction-video shows students taking ownership of their own learning through the use of technology as the teacher facilitates along side them. Students were creating podcasts, movies, etc.., to show their learning. Allowing students these opportunities can transform classrooms into a place where students can create and share with the world! We can see how classrooms have gone from paper pencil, to the use of internet to show what they have learned.
The second video I watched https://www.Externalizing.org/practice/inquiry-based-learning-teacher-guided-student-driven shows us how Inquiry-Based Learning has taken the classroom from Teacher-Guided to Student-Driven. Teachers help guide learning through high levels of inquiry and guided questions. This helps shape where students go with the learning. Students get to touch learning and therefor are excited my learning. Students get to see that Art, Math, and Science are everywhere and allowing them to take over the creative process of learning. Students begin to realize that not knowing the outcomes is an exciting part of learning with no limits. In my last video https://www.accelerate.org/project-based-learning-rahil-profile-video we see how a PBL school transformed a struggling student into a successful student. Through PBL, this student was able to learn leadership and 21st century literacy skills by applying the content from what he had learned into everyday problem-solving life experiences. Through a topic of his choice, he learned how to research, analyze, generalize, and apply it to the real world around him. This student truly felt these skills would one day lead him to a successful career, In summary, these videos have clearly illustrated to me how the use of technology in the classroom can serve to motivate and perpetuate student learning that leads to more powerful teaching experiences. Clearly, I need to intergrate more use of technology in my classroom in order to allow my students the opportunity to be more creative and take on greater ownership of their learning. Something must be done about our Education system in America. Countries around the world are surpassing us across the board. Schools across the country need to provide an education to ALL students. In order for this to happen, we need students who come to school ready to learn in supportive learning environments with equitable funding and well supported teachers that are able to access 21st century learning skills. Schools need to be ready for in-depth student and teacher learning. Unfortunately, not every school in our country has access to tools required to help every student be successful in schools. We have watched our country, create race and class based achievement gaps, slip from 1st to 16th in the world in college participation, and a country where only 1:10 low income kindergartners will become college graduates. We need to become more round in our thinking about education and how we can adapt to the changing world around us and not stay flat in our thinking about education!
